Kansas City hasn’t gotten its fair shake from hip-hop in 2026. Baby Keem, A$AP Rocky, and Isaiah Rashad all skipped over the City of Fountains. In contrast, J. Cole made sure KC felt the love when he returned to the T-Mobile Center just two years after his back-to-back shows at the venue, headlining alongside Drake on the “Big As The What?” tour.

It’s no secret that hip-hop’s mainstream has been lacking in 2026. While major names like J. Cole, Future, and Drake have dominated the conversation, some of the year's most compelling projects have come from outside the traditional mainstream. These three albums, all released in 2026, are some of the highest-quality projects of the year – and they aren’t getting the attention they deserve.
